i was running windows 95 on a 386 sx and that was 5 min to desktop and not just that but biggest problem was that there was no way to install a 3dfx card since the machine had no pci slots and i never seen a 3d accel card in a isa slot so there was no 3d acceleration but many games in window 95 actually run sofware render how ever would be no fun running since the computer so slow it would have given 1 frame per hour if it did not exist in a error in module U2893923FF82 or alike and then just freeze and crash.

play half-life 2 on it, wonder how that would run on those early pci 486 motherboards

Those days playing rollercoaster tycoon on windows 95. I also had Windows 2000 Release To Candidate CD. I was able to install it on my Celeron Mendocino 200A (With no L2 cache) but had no drivers for my vga and sound card. No internet in those days.

Nowadays we can run Windows 11 pretty much flawlessly on 15 year old processors, provided that we have an SSD, a good graphics card and a good amount of RAM...

Nobody ever claimed it was impossible on a 486 "platform" ... just on a 486 CPU.

I think the fact that it has 32MB of RAM probably slows it more than it being a 486.

I love that it's slow enough to see the win32 GUI draws appear, it's so fun to look at new windows being created and drawn 💗

This is what it look like to run windows 2000 on my 1994 Compaq Contura 4/25 as it have the same 486 cpu. Awesome stuff though

What's the deal with the 25mhz on this things? A i386 could reach up to 40mhz, I know they can handle instructions way faster and efficient but going down on the clock-cycles from previous generation makes no sense.

I was working at Kalok when it shut down. We ended with the KL-3100, 100mb version 1992, I built thousands more in Brazil for 2 more years. Amazing this drive must be 30 years old. There should be a date code on the base. You can take the 4 covers screws off and the drive will run just fine in a class 100 bench, plus you can fabricate a clear cover and watch it work. Its a stepper positioned arm, has a track 0, thanks for posting.....

i think you need use SSD for fast loading.

I did this using an AMD 80586 133mhz with 64mb. Windows 2000 was slow but it worked. 32mb? I am surprised it even booted.

My using Windows 2000 Professional on virtual machine. I'm using 256, 512, 1024 and 1536 MB RAM.
